Greater Than Ourselves

Sam is gay, Sam is Catholic, and Sam’s mother doesn’t think he should be dating his boyfriend. He is determined to convert her reluctant tolerance to willing acceptance of his sexuality, yet Monica’s deeply held religious beliefs prevent her from doing so. What results is an intense confrontation between dogma and desire, duty and choice, and faith and freedom.

At its core, ‘Greater Than Ourselves’ is a play about what love means to a mother and a son, separated by ideological gulfs yet intimately bound by their deep devotion to the truth – and to each other.
